Knowing the model number of your Briggs & Stratton® ride engine will make it easy to order maintenance or repair parts online or from your local dealer. The engine model number is the first 12 characters stamped into metal directly on your engine in one of two locations – on the valve cover or an aluminum tag.
15 oz. of oil is required for the 550e Series engine (2200 PSI Pressure Washer).
Every year, Briggs & Stratton makes and assembles the engines and enclosures for all of their home standby generators at their US-based facilities in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Munnsville, New York, among others.
Where can I find my Briggs & Stratton engine`s horsepower or torque rating? You can find the gross horsepower or torque value labeled on your engine. To find an engine`s horsepower, look for a number with “HP” or “cc.”
While automotive engine oil, such as 10W-30 or 10W-40, can be used in a lawn mower engine, it is generally recommended that SAE 30 motor oil be used.
Engines on most outdoor power equipment operate well with 5W30 Synthetic oil. For equipment operated in hot temperatures, Vanguard 15W50 Synthetic oil provides the best protection.
Can I Use 5W-30 Instead Of SAE 30? Both oils have a “30” hot viscosity rating. This means SAE 5W-30 oil has the same flow rate as SAE 30 at operating temp. So, technically it`s fine to use SAE 5W-30 oil in place of SAE 30.
The only difference between the two oils is the low temperature point, with the 5W-30 functioning slightly better than the 10W-30. Winter-grade oil stays thin even as temperatures drop, which means it will flow straight to the engine at startup.
Lawnmowers don`t have the super tight clearances, compared to cars, that require 5w20 or 0w20 oil, etc. That I know of, 5w20 only comes in a full synthetic, or synthetic blend. Both are not ideal for a lawnmower. Stick with the 10w30 CONVENTIONAL oil, not synthetic oil.
The easiest way to tell a 2-cycle engine from a 4-cycle engine is the number of fuel tank and/or oil sump fill ports. A 2-cycle engine has one fill port with a cap that has fuel pump and oil can icon. The cap will usually state the oil to fuel mix ratio.
We are the world`s largest small engine producer, the number one marketer for pressure washers, and a leading manufacturer of power generation, lawn and garden turf care and job site products.
How to check the type of engine. You can easily find out what kind of engine is in your car by checking the VIN, which can be seen in the owner`s manual or under the hood. The VIN can also be found on the front of the driver`s side dashboard in most cases.
Finding your model number and serial number is as easy as locating the identification tag on your machine. As seen in the example, the model number will be displayed below the MODEL heading (Example: Z235), and the serial number will be underlined on the top-right corner of the tag (Example: 130002).

I have a Poulan 550 158cc Push Mower. Two Model #’s 96132004200 and PR0550N21RH3. Two Serial #’s 0901075421770 and 011309M001762. The mower will run if primed then dies. The carb. is on the tank. I took the tank and carb. off and blew through all openings. Air was coming out all the openings. Still no fix. Can someone please help?
ANSWER : Does it have fresh gas in it, If so time to rebuild the carb, even though you blew through all holes there is a diaphram inside the carb that pumps gas to it, so I suggest you take the carb apart and clean inside out and replace the diaphram, the way you describe it only runs on primer, tells me the carb is not getting fuel. Good Luck
