Common Reasons Brake Lock Up

Overheated braking system. Using the wrong brake fluid. Damaged or broken parts (calipers, brake pads, pistons, rotors, or others) Defective ABS components.

When brakes are not as responsive as what they should be, or if the brake pedal “sinks” down to the floor, this is a possible indication of a braking system leak. It could be a brake fluid leak, or a brake hose air leak.
The most common cause of brake failure is loss of brake fluid. The fluid transfers the force you exert by pushing down on the brake pedal to the brake disks that slow and stop your car`s wheels. You can usually detect a leak before getting on the road because you`ll see it underneath your vehicle.
Damaged/leaking brake line(s)

Since brake lines are made of steel tubing, they can become corroded by rust. Over time, rust can cause small holes to develop, allowing brake fluid to leak out. The loss of brake fluid leads to a loss of hydraulic pressure, so the brake pedal will feel soft or low and go to the floor.

The ABS is supposed to prevent your brakes from locking. The system operates through a computer in your vehicle to send messages when it senses unusual wheel decelerations. The computer reduces pressure on the wheel so the brakes will stop the vehicle. Brakes can lock up if your ABS system is faulty.
The classic symptom of a failing master cylinder is a brake pedal that “dives” or sinks slowly to the floor while pedal pressure is being applied. Another sign to look out for is any leaks around the master cylinder. If a seal is worn out, it may leak past the seal and onto the pushrod that attaches to the brake pedal.
Unscrew the brake master cylinder reservoir cap. Using a funnel, slowly pour the brake fluid into the fluid reservoir while keeping the brakes pressed down to create pressure and push out any air bubbles forming. Be careful not to exceed the maximum brake fluid level.
If you`ve noticed that your car`s brake pedal feels weak or spongy, the most common cause is air in the brake fluid. Try bleeding the brakes and topping up the brake fluid to the fill line in the reservoir. If the problem persists, take the car to a garage for a full brake system inspection.
When your ABS system malfunctions are can also cause a spongy brake pedal. Your ABS system is designed to allow the driver to maintain more control of the car in a high-speed stop.
Seized caliper pistons can be removed with the hydraulic pressure off the brake system itself. After removing the caliper from the disc, pump the brake pedal to move the piston past the corroded section. You will then be able to disassemble and rebuild it.
The ABS system works in tandem with the rest of the braking system to stop your vehicle quickly under hard braking. A faulty ABS wheel speed sensor can lead to longer braking distances under those situations.
A faulty ABS sensor will impact a number of important braking functions and will exhibit some obvious warning signs including: ABS light: this is normally the first sign that there`s a problem with the ABS system – this could be caused by either a sensor or the control module.
With the car turned off, pump the brake pedal four or five times until you get a hard brake pedal. Continue to hold the brake pedal down with moderate pressure and start the vehicle. The brake pedal should drop. If this brake pedal remains hard, there is a problem with the brake booster, such as a ripped diaphragm.
Failed Master Cylinder

If the calipers are in working order and brake sticking or locking occurs at all four wheels, then the problem may be with the master cylinder. You may have suspected the master cylinder all along, especially when applying the brake pedal.

This can overheat the brake pads, causing them to wear down faster which could then cause problems with the brake rotors and suspension. The heat and pressure created by slamming on the brakes too hard can cause cracks in the brake hoses and leak brake fluid as well.
First, try a repeated pattern of pressing and releasing your brake pedal over and over in rapid succession. This action is most often called “pumping the brake.” That strategy is often effective if you still have some brake fluid left, yet not enough to allow the braking system to function normally.
This can be due to a number of problems: a leak in a brake line, a loss of pressure within the master cylinder itself due to a failed seal, or air being introduced into the braking system. Your first reaction to encountering spongy brakes should be to rapidly pump the brake pedal with your foot.

that one bolt is a multi jet, find four holes use a fine pin and carby cleaner ,hint one is at the top were the thread starts , one is in the inside center and two in the sides

How do I get the brake band ,located inside the chain cover, assembled back onto the chain saw. clutch assembly. The band brake diameter seems too small to fit around the clutch housing.
ANSWER : You need to load the brake, clamp it in a vice, be carefull not to damage the cover, if the hand gaurd is connected to the brake pull it fully back until the locks off, this may take a fair amount of force as it is compressing a large spring, if the hand guard is on the machine, remove it and use this as a tool to load the brake, the only other way is to remoce the clutch and sprocket, now refit the brake onto the saw, now pull the hand guard fully back to load the brake.
