Chain Brake: Located on the top handle of the chainsaw, the chain brake is used to stop the chainsaw chain from rotating around the bar. There are two ways to engage the chain brake: by pushing the handle forward, or by force of inertia that occur when the saw kicks back.
A: The spark plug gap on all products is . 025-inch.
Chainsaws without chain brakes are prohibited. `Chainsaw` means any powered machine that: drives an exposed chain for the purposes of cutting, and. is operated by being hand-held.
One of the most important chainsaw safety features is the chain brake, which stops movement of the chain in the event of kickback during operation. The chain brake is activated when the front hand guard, located near the saw`s upper handle, moves rapidly toward the chainsaw operator.
Chainsaw manufacturers include a spark arrestor on every model to prevent combustion byproducts from escaping the combustion chamber during saw operation and starting a fire. The arrestor is a screen that fits behind the muffler.
Importance of the Spark Plug Gap

The gap is the distance between the center and side electrodes, set so arcing occurs at the proper voltage that ignites the fuel and generates the combustion that makes the engine run.

The letters on the screws represent High (H), Low (L) and Idle (T). The H screw regulates the Air/Fuel mix during high RPMs, while the L Screw does the same during low RPMs. The T screw regulates how much fuel is sent to the carburettor while idling until the throttle is pressed.
Dirty Carburetor (air+fuel)

If fuel sits in the system for too long, the carburetor (and the engine and fuel lines) can become sticky and clog. Remove the air filter and spray the carburetor with carb cleaner—an aerosolized acetone spray made to remove the gunk.

The STIHL Quickstop® chain brake is designed to stop the rotation of the chain if activated by the operator`s hand or by inertia if the saw kicks back with sufficient force. In some working positions, the STIHL Quickstop® chain brake can be activated by inertia, stopping the chain within fractions of a second.

Can not keep chain on – Poulan Pro Chain Saw 46cc 20"
ANSWER : Release the chain brake and remove the bar and chain. Lay the chain out on a flat surface and inspect all of the links on each side of the chain–there should be none broken or deformed. Make sure the chain lies flat to the surface–no part standing away which suggests a bent chain. Replace the chain if any such defects are found. While these parts are off of the engine, clean the bar mounting area of the engine, then start the engine–you should see oil oozing out of a small port in the side. If nothing, then the oil pump, oil lines, or tank filter may need service. Clean the two small oil passages that run from the large holes out to the chain groove on each edge of the bar. When assembled, the chain should be able to be moved by hand, yet tight enough to bring the chain up to the lower bar edge. Recheck after tightening the bar mountings. Hope this helps!

I would like to go down A bar size our two on my poulan wildthing
ANSWER : I have a Poulan Pro 295 20″.  When I bought it I also bought a 16″bar and chain and have been using those since.  They make the saw much easier to handle and are a better match to the available power.
The key dimension is from the bar’s mounting hole to its end.  At the store look at the normal replacement bar for your 18″ saw, and pick out a 16″ or even 14″ bar with the same dimensions there.  This can be easily seen by laying one bar over the other.

Can’t get the housing to align after replacing the chain
ANSWER : This is usually caused by not releasing the chain brake before removing the cover. If the brake band mechanism is in the cover, then it must be released by turning the coupling that connects with the brake handle mechanism. Hope this helps!

Change the chain instructions – Poulan Pro Chain Saw 46cc 20"
ANSWER : General instructions are, if the machine has a chainbrake make sure this is off, loosen the side cover nut/nuts, wind the bar adjuster screw back to slacken the chain, remove the side cover, push the bar back to the sprocket, the chain should now be lose enough to lift it off the tip of the bar and un loop off the sprocket, now loop the new chain over the sprocket and around the tip of the bar, make sure the cutters on the top of the bar are facing away from the saw ( a pushing chain )now re fit the side/chainbrake cover, if the bar adjuster pawl is in the brake/side cover, make sure this aligns with the adjuster hole in the bar, re fit the bar nut/nuts finger tight, wind the adjuster screw in so as the chain sits snuggly all around the bar, with a gloved hand pull the chain around the bar manualy, it should pull smoothly, lift the tip of the bar up and fully tighten the nut/nuts, run the saw, there will be an amount of initial stretch, slacken the bar nut/nuts and re tention.
