How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
First remove and reinsert the battery to ensure that it`s seated properly in the Blower. If this doesn`t work, check the battery charge level by pushing the battery indicator button. If the battery is low, stop and charge the battery before use.
A common problem that could be keeping your leaf blower from starting is a blocked air filter. Clogged air filters cause the blower`s engine to receive too much fuel and not enough air, which often leads to a faulty start (or no start at all).
Incorrect fuel mixture can cause the Blower to not start or run roughly, make sure you are using the correct fuel mixture with your blower. Ryobi Blowers run off a 50:1 ratio, this means 50 parts unleaded fuel to 1 part 2-stroke oil. The choke being left on will cause your Blower to not run correctly and shut off.
Defective spark plug – Due to carbon build-up or a weakened electrode, a spark plug will degrade over time and be unable to ignite the compressed fuel and air inside the engine`s combustion chamber to start or run the engine.
Bad Spark Plugs If the engine holds compression well, and the fuel system is working correctly, but it still won`t start, that tells us that your car`s spark plugs may not be working. The spark plugs ignite the air/fuel mixture inside the engine`s cylinders. It`s the resulting explosion that actually powers your car.
The engine misfires or runs rough. The engine starts, but stalls shortly after. There is a noticeable increase in fuel consumption during normal equipment use. The spark plug itself appears damaged or corroded with carbon build-up or rust.
If your leaf blower engine is lacking power, it could be due to a blocked air filter. A plugged air filter will restrict air flow into the engine, reducing power and performance. Changing the air filter is an easy fix, and should solve this issue.
There are many different reasons why a leaf blower may fail to start, including stale fuel, engine flooding, dirty air filters, faulty spark plugs, defective batteries, blown fuses, and contact issues of the power switch.

It will not start and has no spark. I pulled the plug and let it hang and had no spark. I did the same thing with a spark plug and still no change. Can anyone help me
ANSWER : First of all- your methods of testing spark are … unsatisfactory.
You need a spark tester and a good unit ground to determine the condition of the module.
For preliminary tests the spark plug needs to be grounded. Insert the plug into the spark plug boot and make sure there is a good connection and make sure the plug is grounded by touching the threaded part of the spark plug to a solid engine component. Usually the cooling fins of the cylinder or head. Once the plug is grounded proplerly then pull the rope and check for fire.
Once you are satisfied that there is no spark then unplug the ground wire from the module and check for spark again. If you have spark then its a switch or bad wire problem. If still no spark then replace the module.
I have a pb-251. replaced carb, air filter, hoses, spark plug and cleaned spark arrestor. start easily. runs fine for 2 minutes and then stalls if I give it the gas but will idle all day long.
ANSWER : Loosen gas cap. Probably a bad Vent in the gas cap
Started PB620-ST yesterday with some difficulty. However, ran until fuel empty. Refueled today, but will not start. Spark at plug ok. Fuel flowing, but seems to overflow into air filter compartment. Does not seem to “fire” at all.
ANSWER : Sounds like your flooding the engine; I did the same thing. Wait a while to let the gas drain back to the tank. Use your primer bulb once and your choke for only ONE pull; then shut off the choke. Pull start without the choke 2-3 times and it should start.
