An improperly routed belt can cause the engine to die when the blades are engaged. To check belt routing, lower the deck to its lowest setting and remove the belt guard by the drive pulley. Next, lift the belt over the pulley and remove the pins that support the deck at the rear.
Belt-the number one cause for your blades not to engage is that your belt is either stretched or loose causing it to slip or fall off completely. Belt could have snapped also. When you are trying to process too much grass/leaves they could pack up under your deck and push off your belt.
You Lose Power in the Middle of Mowing:

Here`s why this happens and what you can do: Dirty Air Filter on Your Lawn Mower: Clean or replace. Dirty Spark Plug: Clean or replace. Build Up of Clippings & Debris: Clean underside of your lawn mower deck as noted above.

Check that all the safety switches are working correctly, it is possible the seat switch is bad or loose plug/ bad wire. Also if battery weak or charging system weak/faulty the clutch will stall out engine, charge battery up with charger and try.
A dried out or sticky pin is one of the most common reasons for blades to stop spinning. If they spin easily and there`s no resistance, try turning your fan on and see if the pin spins. If it doesn`t, the problem isn`t the pin and there is probably a short in the motor.
A wide range of issues can cause a lawn mower to stall. Here`s one: Dull blades that force the engine to overwork. If the mower stalls through thick grass areas, try sharpening the blade to see if that fixes the problem.
A dirty carburetor is the most common cause of a lawn mower that starts and then dies. Other possible causes include: Stale/Dirty Gas. Faulty Choke.
As the fuel level drops, a vacuum begins to form in the fuel tank because air can get in to fill the space the consumed fuel occupied. After about 10 or 15 minutes, the vacuum will become strong enough that fuel will stop flowing to the carburetor and the lawnmower will die.
What`s happening? This is a normal function of the seat safety switch. With the blades engaged, weight from the operator allows the seat safety switch to keep the engine running.
The possible causes of a lawn mower blade spinning but not cutting grass include a damaged or wrongly installed blade, a dull blade, or damaged lawnmower tires. Other possible reasons can be improper tire pressure, a clogged deck, or a broken mower belt.
Power take-off (PTO) clutches provide a mechanical disconnect between the power created by gas and diesel engines or electric motors to another piece of equipment. The PTO clutches enable the transmission of that energy to auxiliary equipment that does not generate its own power.
Condensation inside the gas tank is one culprit, but moisture can also enter the system through a loose or ill fitting gas cap. The best solution is to drain the mower`s gas tank and refill it with fresh gasoline. A clogged fuel filter can also cause a mower engine to die.
Your lawn mower runs for 30 minutes then dies if you are having issues such as a bad spark plug, air problems, a malfunctioning carburetor, or a faulty gas cap. You may even encounter the issue that your lawn mower runs for 5 minutes then dies.
The difference in air pressure across the two sides of the blade creates both lift and drag. The force of the lift is stronger than the drag and this causes the rotor to spin.
What is the problem with a fan that does not rotate unless rotated manually to start? It probably needs to be oiled. The starting torque of the shaded pole motors often used for fans is VERY LOW. It doesn`t take much friction in the bearings to prevent starting.
An unbalanced blade spinning that fast will cause a significant amount of vibration, which will put stress on yout blade shaft, spindle, and even the engine. So if you want to get the most life out of your mower… keep the blades balanced! If playback doesn`t begin shortly, try restarting your device.
The rule of thumb is that mower blades should be sharpened around every 25 hours of use. Sharpening or replacing your mower blades won`t only stop your grass leaves from being ripped and bruised, but can also decrease your fuel consumption by up to 25%.

You didn’t list what model, but usually hte seat switch is connected to the negative side of the battery, and grounds out the magneto, so you can’t test it to ground. Put your tester on 12+ battery, and then to both sides of the seat switch. There is usually 4 terminals on seat switch. Some moodels have grey wires for the mageneto circuit, you can tell by whatever color also goes to the clutch switch too.
