Fiskars products are made from hardened steel, which allows the blades to slice through materials all season long and stay sharper longer. Even so, sharpening blades at the end of each season will ensure the longevity of tools. Flat files are excellent for sharpening the blades on these Fiskars tools.
Please Note the UP86 is no longer manufactured and has been superseded by the UPX86, which is what you will receive. The two models are virtually the same except the new X variant has a Powergear mechanism for increased cutting force – however, older attachments designed for the UP86 may not fit it.
Curved blades are better suited to making overhead or low cuts because the curved blade helps hold the saw in place. Material: Most pruning saw blades are made from steel and high-carbon steel.
On a bypass lopper or pruner designed to cut soft green branches, such as those found on roses, only the outside of the top blade will be sharp. Use a sharpening stone or a carbide blade sharpener to re-sharpen the blade. Pass the sharpener over the bevel at the same angle as the original slant.

I cannot seem to close the hedge trimmer again: i.e., the tips of the two blades do not come together again. How can I solve this?
ANSWER : Evidently there is a burr/dent along one or both of the blades that is causing it not to close all the way. Just take a fine metal hand file and lightly file the area of the dented blade on the bottom of each blade, the sides of the blades that face each other. When you do one blade, just flip the trimmer over and do the other blade the same way. That should eliminate the problem and let the blades close all the way again.

I need to get the blade of the lawn mower sharpened.Any tips on how to disconnect the blade fropm the lawn mower?
ANSWER : There is a jig that you can buy that makes this job SO much eaiser. It is a universal jig that clamps onto the deck and keeps the blade from spinning so you can use a ratchet to remove the nut holding the blade on. One name brand is called a “Blade Hog”. You should be able to find one of these at one of the bog box hardware stores.
Hope this helps,
