Grasshog 12 Inch 18 Volt Cordless String Trimmer/Edger…

Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
I’m gonna take a guess and say you re-spooled the line yourself. If you did you may have put too much line on the spool. The max. is 30′, but I’ve found that that can cause jamming, which forces out more line, if not done perfectly. Reduce the amount of line by about 5 feet and you should be OK.

Black and Decker automatic feed spool problems may include a jammed or tangled line, clogs from trimming heavy weeds, or an overheated motor in the trimmer itself. An overheated motor can be caused by reloading the spool with a line thicker than the size recommended by manufacturer.
Another reason the feeding line may not be working is that the line or lever is old and worn. An old line is more likely to kink and get jammed in the trimmer. If this is the issue, replace the line, making sure to get the correct size, and wind it neatly in the direction indicated on the spool.
The Automatic Feed Spool (AFS™) is the technologically advanced line feed system found on Black & Decker string trimmer products such as the Grass Hog™, Trimmer/Edger, and the 12″ Cordless Trimmer/Edger.
The most common problem with a strimmer not starting is that there`s a problem with the fuel mix. Double check that you`ve used 40 parts fresh unleaded petrol to 1 part 2-stroke oil (40:1). Check the petrol you`ve used isn`t stale.
But what`s the difference between these two? Line trimmers, also known as weed eaters, are designed for trimming grass and weeds along edges and in hard-to-reach areas. They typically have a bent shaft used for smaller jobs. While the whipper snippers are designed for cutting thicker grass and brush.
If the line is too thick or too thin it can continuously feed the line. Make sure you are using the correct line thickness rated for your machine. The trimmer head is the unit that houses the spool, cap and spring, and lever (in some models).
String trimmers are used to trim the grass in tight spots that a lawn mower can`t reach, like along a fence, under decks, or near delicate plants and shrubs. On the other hand, lawn edgers are used to clean up borders along sidewalks and driveways.
What is the Difference? Lawn edgers are designed to cut edges and create boundary lines, whereas a string trimmer is designed to maintain those boundary lines. They make a great team! Both can help your lawn to look sharper.
EASYFEED advances your line with the push of a button – no bumping required. 2-speed control lets you boost power or extend runtime. Easily converts from trimmer to wheeled edger. Part of the 20V MAX* System – 1 System.
If the spool and line on your grass trimmer are fine but your trimmer still isn`t cutting properly, you`ll need to check if the blade on the trimmer`s guard is dull, broken or has come away.
over time the arrestor can become clogged with soot which may cause the trimmer engine to stall. you can try cleaning the arrestor with a wire brush. but you may need to replace it with a new.
A whipper snipper, also known as a string trimmer or a line trimmer, is a handheld gardening tool used for grass cutting. It consists of a long shaft with a cutting head at one end and a motor at the other.
The proper use of line trimmers makes trimming an easier job. The line is designed with high-test nylon, which can easily cut through the weeds and grass. The spinning head uses the centrifugal force to cut your grass and weeds.
Something could be blocking the cap, keeping the line from advancing. To inspect and replace, simply remove and clean out the bump cap housing of any debris that may be impacting its operation. If the cap is damaged, replace it. The spool houses the wound trimmer line, located inside the trimmer head.
The most common reason for the cord refusing to rewind is a broken or worn out recoil spring. This tiny spring hooks onto the pulley and is stretched out when you pull the cord; when you let go the spring is meant to snap back to its original position.
Usually this is the result of the cutting head being taken too close to objects, e.g. garden stones, paving edges, walls etc. The cutting line must be allowed to rotate freely and the correct diameter and type of line should be used.
