Replacement Spool + Line (10m 1.6mm)
The Automatic Feed Spool (AFS™) is the technologically advanced line feed system found on Black & Decker string trimmer products such as the Grass Hog™, Trimmer/Edger, and the 12″ Cordless Trimmer/Edger.
String trimmer line comes in a range of thicknesses or sizes. For light work, such as trimming grass, 0.065″-0.085″ should be sufficient. For thicker grass and weeds, a line in the 0.085″-0.110″ range will get the job done, and for thicker underbrush, anything thicker than 0.110″ will work.
It should roughly match the weight of the species you are fishing for (e.g. use line in the 30-pound test for tuna in the 30-pound range). A typical line to cast for trout would be 4-pound test. Consider braided line of 30-pound test or more if you go after large game fish.
To replace it, simply remove and replace the bump cap with a new one. The cap allows you to feed more line when you tap it on the ground. If this cap is broken or worn out over time, it can malfunction, causing too much line to feed out when you bump it.
Single-line heads simplify winding new trimming line. Dual-line heads trim faster, cutting twice with each revolution. Bump heads feed trimming line from the spool when you tap the cutting head against the ground. Automatic-feed heads release new line as needed.
Line trimmers can only handle a specific range of line sizes (diameter) and it is important to get the right one for your machine. The wrong size of line will invariably slow you down. If you go too thick (i.e. heavy) it will not auto-feed in a bump head and it could cause damage to the machine in extreme cases.
Light: 0.065- to 0.080-inch line is best for trimming grass around the house and whacking down common lawn weeds from around driveways, walkways and fences. Medium: 0.080 to 0.110-inch line is best for homes with larger lawns, or gardens overgrown with weeds that have tough, heavy stems. Heavy: 0.110-inch and above.
Braided lines are also labeled with a nylon monofilament equivalent diameter, stated in pounds. For example, a braided line labeled as 20-pound-test may be labeled as having a . 009-inch diameter, and the label will state that this is equivalent to the diameter of a 6-pound-test nylon monofilament line.
Sizes ranging from 2.4mm to 3mm should be sufficient for the task. This cord is quite resilient and will handle a considerable amount of load, which makes it a good choice for heavy residential use. If the cord still breaks or becomes brittle, you might need a commercial-grade strimmer cord ranging from 3.3mm to 4mm.
