How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

The HT-1000 transmission fluid only needs to be changed once every 1000 hours, as opposed to as early as 500 hours with other brands. Our Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid HT-1000™ is a synthetic transmission oil engineered to provide maximum durability and long life for heavy-duty hydrostatic drive systems.
Do this by removing the cap and inverting transaxle. Tuff Torq recommends using only using approved Tuff Tech drive fluid when servicing any of our transaxles. Only use the fill port (covered by the black cap) to refill unit. You will need approximately 2.2 liters of oil to properly refill the unit if completely empty.
The level should be at 1″ to 1.5″ from the top of the case. Add the recommended engine oil as needed and Do Not overfill the transaxle.
It serves as an energy transfer or power transmission medium, lubricant, and sealant. It is also a fluid that cools the equipment and carries contaminants away.
Though changing transmission fluid can`t fix mechanical problems, it does make for smoother shifts and can extend the life of your transmission. And even when manufacturers recommend fluid change intervals of 150,000 miles under normal conditions, it may be a good idea to change it more frequently.
Changing your fluid cannot cause any damage by itself, if everything is fine inside the transmission. The issues start to appear when you change the fluid if your clutches are already worn or damaged from use. If you go and replace the fluid after they are already worn out. this can cause slipping.
Instead of using air, the torque converter uses a liquid medium, which cannot be compressed – oil, otherwise known as transmission fluid.
The fluid circulates in the transmission between two main areas, the pan and the torque converter. When the motor is running the fluid circulates from the pan to the torque converter through the cooler lines to the cooler in the radiator and back to the pan continuously.
Failure of any mechanical component, a broken hose, or clogged filter will cause tractor hydrostatic transmission problems. But the most common issue will be the oil itself. In the transmission section of your operator`s manual, you`ll find a section that covers oil viscosity.
Hydrostatic transmissions have often been used with flywheel accumulators. Their main advantage lies in their compactness and high efficiency. Their main disadvantage is the high cost, particularly where high-efficiency units are used.
Although the life of a hydraulic oil really depends on many variables, including quality of oil, operating conditions, and potential contamination, a good quality hydraulic oil should last at least 6 months if conditions are not severe.
Most hydraulic systems will operate satisfactorily using a variety of fluids. These include engine oil, automatic transmission fluid and oil formulated specifically for the hydraulic compartment.

Replacing hydrostatic fluid is normally not necessary, unless the drive system is in need of some other internal service or repair.

High-quality hydraulic fluid is formulated with purer base oils and additives that better withstand the heat fluctuations in hydraulic equipment. This means that higher-quality fluids often can last well over 5,000 hours.

Hydraulic fluid “top-up”.
In my usual maintenance of my Ryobi log splitter (Model # RY49701), I noticed the hydralic fluid to be somewhat low. The operator’s manual suggested topping upo with , I assume, 22 grade hydraulic fluid, and gave several examples, eg.Shell Tellus 22, Mobil DTE 11, ARAL Vitam GF 22, etc. I am only assuming that the fluid is 22 grade given the examples but I’m unable to find that in any of the hardware, automotive, shops that I have tried. What grade hydraulic fluid should I be using, and if another grade is suggested, can I mix the fluid in the splitter as I bought it , with the top up, or should I drain the fluid and replace it with an alternative fluid?
Thanks for the help. Perhaps a rather stupid question but I do want to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Thanks again,
Eric Pasquet
ANSWER : Hi,Here is a crossreference sheet that gives many other brands.I would think that you could find one of those oils to top off you splitter with…Check places that deal in “outdoor equipment” or a farm machinery dealer.Don’t know if you have a “Tractor Supply” Store near you either… they would have it.They also have a universal hydraulic oil that can be bought online. This is a 10W-20 oil that would work and mix with what you have…heatman101

I cannot get the tractor to continue running even after I add starting fluid. It runs as long as I add fluid. I bought a fuel filter , pump and hoses. I still can’t get the engine to keep running. I even took off the gas tank and drained it. John Hanna Jr, Gallatin, Tennessee 37066
ANSWER : I would take the carburetor apart and soak it in a solvent. It is very common for the fuel passages to become blocked by gasoline which has turned to a shellac type substance over a long winter of sitting idle. If it was running fine earlier this year then that is not the problem, but it sounds like a fuel supply and you have excluded the other possibilities so I would give that a shot anyway.

Beko Dishwasher DE3542F is not draining away and when i open the door it all floods out. I cleaned it through with a wash aid and cleaned filters and put boiling water in to clear away but it is still not draining away – any help please?
ANSWER : It could be several things— a clog, a jammed or broken drain pump iimpeller, a burned out drain pump motor, or the control is not sending power to the drain pump.

If you can hear the drain pump running (you might have to get down on fhe floor), then you should try something simple first. The drain from the dishwasher is probably a rubber hose that connects to the side of your garbage disposal. It might be clogged right there. Loosen or remove the clamp that holds that hose to the disposal. Put a stick in the hole and wiggle it around. Do the same in the hose. Put the hose back on and try it again. If this doesn’t fix it, you will again have water in the dishwasher to deal with. 🙁
.
If you can’t hear the drain pump running, it just might be a pretty quiet motor, or the problem will take a little more doing.
