We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Yes. Snow blowers, like cars, are 4-cycle engines, so they use the same type of motor oil. Make sure to use a motor oil weight with a low-temperature viscosity rating, such as 5W-30.
Best Oil for Snow Throwers—Ariens Company 5W-30 Sno-Thro 4-Cycle Engine Oil. Made specifically for snow machines, throwers, and blowers, Ariens Sno-Thro 707068 engine oil is a fail-safe for snowblowers or other 4-cycle engines that need heavy-weight oil due to low temperatures.
Overview. Toro snow blower 4-Cycle engine oil 5W-30 motor oil designed specifically for cold weather applications. Keeps engine cool and lubricated for optimal performance.
This Ariens OEM oil is specifically formulated for extreme cold weather, and is approved to be used with all Ariens 4-cycle snow blower models.
5W-30 multi grade oil is ideal for private vehicles and light-duty petrol and diesel engines. It also provides a better cold temperature start than 10W-30 oil. On the other hand, the slightly thicker oil,10W-30, provides better lubrication for commercial vehicles and heavy-load engine cars.
Gravely 10W30 synthetic blend lawn mower oil provides you with a high-quality fluid proven to extend the engine life of your Ariens lawn equipment.
You can but if 5w30 is recommended that`s what you should use,a 30 wt oil will make The snowblower harder to start and work harder thus using More fuel to overcome the additional thickness of the single grade oil.
The main differences between SAE 30 and 5W30 are that the SAE 30 is a single-grade type, that can be used for small engines, and would generate in warm weather. On the other hand, 5W30 is a multiple-grade type, that can be used for larger engines, tolerating extreme weather.
You can use 10w30 instead of 5w30 as long as the vehicle isn`t subjected to cold temperatures for an extended period of time. You want the oil to be pumped throughout the engine as quickly as possible after starting the engine to prevent “cold start damage”.
A: your snowblower will be operating in the winter and 0w30 has a better viscosity at lower temps then 5w30. They both have the same viscosity at 100 degrees. if I did not garage my car or truck here in the winter I would use the 0w30, as it is more viscous after a -10 night. Use the 0w30 as the manufacturer recomends.
Can Mobil 1™ be used in lawn mowers, snow blowers and other small cylinder engines? Yes, if the small engines are four‐cycle engines that call for detergent‐type motor oil. This type of engine has a separate crankcase for motor oil – it`s not mixed with gasoline.
What Is SAE 30 Oil? The SAE 30 oil is a single grade oil with a viscosity rating of 30. It`s called a single grade (or monograde) oil because it only has one viscosity grade. This is different from a multi grade oil, like 10W-30, which is rated for both SAE 10W and SAE 30.
The lower the W number, the better the oil will perform in colder temperatures. Typically, a 5W oil is recommended for winter use, but synthetic oils can be formulated to flow even more easily when cold.
It`s best to use the oil viscosity recommended in the owner`s manual, but using a slightly thinner or thicker oil (lighter or heavier viscosity) generally poses no long-term harm.
So the answer to the question, can you put 10w30 in a 5w30 engine, is that you can yes, as they`re not too different from one another. However, it`s not just about getting the oil that has the most viscosity, or as people say, thickness.
The difference, though, is in the first number—the “5” or “10” before the W. This means at below-freezing temperatures, 5W30 is generally thinner (flowier) than 10W30. They also differ in their lowest operating temperature. 5W30 will still flow at temperatures as low as -22°F, while 10W30 will only work until 0°F.
The short answer is yes, you can use 20w50 oil in a lawnmower but results may vary.
You can but if 5w30 is recommended that`s what you should use,a 30 wt oil will make The snowblower harder to start and work harder thus using More fuel to overcome the additional thickness of the single grade oil.
If your snowblower doesn`t have a 4-cycle engine, then you need to drain the oil before storage. Be sure to carefully remove the oil and dispose of it in a fully sealed container. If you have any other type of snowblower engine, then you can change the oil before storage.
You can but if 5w30 is recommended that`s what you should use,a 30 wt oil will make The snowblower harder to start and work harder thus using More fuel to overcome the additional thickness of the single grade oil.
Can I use 5W-30 oil instead of 10W-30 oil? Yes. 5w30 and 10w30 are both 30 weight oils and the exact same thickness in your engine when it is at operating temperature.
5W-20 is not the best choice. It will work in the short term. Most small engines recommend either a SAE 30 oil or a 5W-30. Ideally, a high quality synthetic 0W-30 should be used if the snowblower is stored in cold temperatures.
Can I use 5W-30 oil instead of 10W-30 oil? Yes. 5w30 and 10w30 are both 30 weight oils and the exact same thickness in your engine when it is at operating temperature.
Can I Use 5W-30 Instead Of SAE 30? Both oils have a “30” hot viscosity rating. This means SAE 5W-30 oil has the same flow rate as SAE 30 at operating temp. So, technically it`s fine to use SAE 5W-30 oil in place of SAE 30.

Dont know what type of oil to use – Toro Power Lawn Mower
ANSWER : Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil. If you’re doing a complete oil change, then you may want to use Synthetic 30 weight, which will last longer between oil changes and also make your engine last longer (but it costs more too). Best of luck to you.James
