How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

The easiest way to tell a 2-cycle engine from a 4-cycle engine is the number of fuel tank and/or oil sump fill ports. A 2-cycle engine has one fill port with a cap that has fuel pump and oil can icon. The cap will usually state the oil to fuel mix ratio.
Although 4-stroke string trimmers have a reputation for lower emissions, better fuel efficiency, and high torque output, 2-stroke trimmers have their own advantages: Lighter weight. Easier maintenance. Easier storage.
Typically speaking, brush cutters run on either a two-stroke or a four-stroke engine. Two-stroke engines tend to be lighter than four-stroke engines, but they are also more difficult to start and less efficient. While being more powerful, four-stroke engines are more expensive and less common.
The first, and arguably one of the most important points in favour of a four stroke engine is a cleaner, more efficient burning of fuel. 2 stroke engines burn the petrol/oil mixture in a very inefficient way, meaning that more pollution is put into the air.
Better traction.

The consistent and smooth power that 4-stroke bikes offer means they also create better traction than 2-strokes. Depending on your riding ability, you should be able to provide constant and stable power to your bike which in turn will give you better traction no matter what gear you`re in.

A small amount of oil will not cause any major damage. However using 2T oil or mixing any oil with fuel in a 4 stroke is neither required nor recommend specially in modern vehicles. It will increase emissions. It may cause premature carbon build up in the engine.
Maintenance. The benefits of a four stroke motor are not without a cost however. As we mentioned earlier, two stroke motors are usually cheaper. They also have significantly less maintenance costs and their less complicated design make their repairs cheaper as well.
There is no difference between “2-cycle” and “4-cycle” fuel except that 2-cycle engines use the fuel as a lubricant, so oil has to be mixed in with the fuel (gasoline). 4-cycle engines are usually made to closer tolerances so having oil mixed with the fuel can gum them up and cause overheating.
Lawnmower makers for many years offered a choice between two-stroke and four-stroke engine types. But in recent years, the four-stroke engine has come to dominate mower sales. Apart from the engines, two-stroke and four-stroke lawnmowers work the same way, cutting grass with a blade spun at high speed by the engine.
A 4 stroke engine needs to circulate oil throughout to lubricate these moving parts, whereas a 2 stroke engine only needs to lubricate the components internal of the combustion chamber, which is achieved by mixing the correct oil to fuel ratio.
Unlike a four-stroke engine, a unique feature of a two-stroke engine is that they do not have an internal oil reservoir. Instead, two-stroke engines require the owner to mix oil into the fuel at a predetermined ratio in order to ensure the engine receives adequate lubrication during operation.
ADVANTAGES OF 4 STROKE ENGINE :-

More fuel eciency :- 4 stroke engines have greater fuel eciency than 2 stroke ones because fuel is consumed once every 4 strokes. Less pollution :- As power is generated once every 4 strokes & also as no oil or lubricant is added to the fuel; 4 stroke engine produces less pollution.

4-stroke engines have become the standard in power generation due mostly to how much cleaner they run than the 2-stroke engines. Separating the intake from the exhaust stroke reduces the amount of unburnt fuel and expanding gases released through the exhaust system.
Significant Differences Between Two- and Four-Stroke Engines: Four-stroke engines are more efficient due to less demand for fuel. Fuel is consumed once every four strokes versus two. Four-stroke engines are better for the environment due to reduced emissions.
For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of petrol and 0.10 litres (100cm³) of STIHL two-stroke oil.
For weekend warriors and beginners, a newer 250-cc 2-stroke offers the ridability of most 4-strokes, minus some torque. Plus, they`re less expensive to maintain. A 250-cc 4-stroke is also a great option since it`s less expensive, lighter and easier to ride for a beginner.
125 2-stroke vs 250 4-stroke. First, don`t misunderstand and think because the 250 is greater in size than 125 that the 250 4-stroke is more powerful than the 125 2-stroke. In fact, 2-stroke bikes with the same engine displacement typically have significantly more power than their 4-stroke counterpart.
Generally, a 125cc two-stroke or a 250cc four-stroke dirt bike will suit a beginning rider better than something with more (unnecessary) power. Avoid the biggest motor 450 Motocross bike, because these will be too powerful for a beginner.
Lubricants for two-stroke gasoline engines are traditionally composed of a mineral oil or synthetic base fluid, performance additive(s) and a solvent, ordinarily a relatively low boiling petroleum distillate, to enhance gasoline/lubricant miscibility.
Two-stroke engines don`t last nearly as long as four-stroke engines. The lack of a dedicated lubrication system means that the parts of a two-stroke engine wear a lot faster. Two-stroke oil is expensive, and you need about 4 ounces of it per gallon of gas.
Two-stroke engines are not quite efficient in combustion because of which they have less mileage. The incomplete combustion is one of the reasons they produce less mileage and because of the other stroke that occurs that unburnt fuel is also passed out to the exhaust increasing the inefficiency even more.
Four-stroke (four-cycle) engines are newer and have a separate compartment for oil, so you don`t have to worry about mixing fuel. These engines are more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly, while also giving you more torque when you need it.
On 4-cycle engines, oil fill caps are usually yellow in color and have the intake and exhaust on one side of the engine. Do NOT mix oil and gas in these engines.
Since the only function is to keep everything moving smoothly, wear happens much slower on a 4-stroke engine than a 2-stroke engine. Pros of a 4-stroke engine: More torque, the engine is quieter and more reliable. Last longer than a 2 stroke engine.

I have a homelite f2020 series petrol trimmer i would like to know the petrol and oil ratio mixture please
ANSWER : I use 50:1 with Sthil 2-stroke oil in ALL my 2-stroke equipment. This ratio does not smoke at all, and does not foul plugs.

Never had a problem yet. At this mix ratio, you can also use it in 4-stroke engines, which means you only need 1 fuel can on site. Also eliminates the possibility of using the wrong can to fill the trimmer.

Was just given one of these with no manual…. what is the oil to gas ratio??
ANSWER : Is it a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? if it has a plug on the bottom above the blade to drain oil (look under the deck on the bottom of the engine) it is a 4 stroke and you do not mix gas / oil in this type of engine. It works just like your car, change the oil every 2 months and keep good gas in the tank. If the engine has no oil plug to drain oil it is a 2 stroke and you do need to mix the oil / gas. is should mix at a 1 to 32 ratio. use low ash oil.

I have MTD Yard machine and don’t know if it is 2 or 4 cycle. Oil should be-SAE30. Can I use oil for 4-cycle which they soid me i Can. Tire.(M otomaster)
ANSWER : If your mower has seperate fill caps for the oil and the gasoline, then you have a 4 cycle or 4 stroke engine. In this case use SAE HD30 motor oil. If there is only 1 fill cap and it says oil & fuel mix, then you have a 2 cycle or 2 stroke engine.
Good luck

Fuel and two stroke mix pls oil type for chain pls
ANSWER : For almost all modern two-stroke engines, a 50-to-1 mixture is recommended. That requires about 2 1/2 oz. oil for every gallon of gasoline.

Use only two-cycle oil for your mixture. This oil is made especially for these engines and can be purchased at gas stations, hardware stores or any other place where you buy regular motor oil.

MANTIS TILLER WITH HONDA GX25 ENGINE STARTS FINE BUT WHEN GIVEN THROTTLE DIES OUT. ALSO A LITTLE WHILE BACK OIL WAS COMING OUT OF CARB BUT THIS HAS NOW STOPPED. THIS IS A 4 STROKE ENGINE WITH APPROX 4 HOURS USE.

E.MAIL. [email protected]

ANSWER : I
also have Mantis tiller for 2 years. From the very beginning I had
a problems. I was referred by Mantis to the repair store and was charged $90.00
for oil drainage. The second time I was waiting for handle replacement for ~ 1
month. This tiller can’t handle even little jobs and the warranty doesn’t worth
a dime. Maybe I will be more successful using it in my living room . I have an
equipment with Briggs and
Stratton engines and I never had a problem.

To me Mantis mean big advertisement and waste of money.
