How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Aphids are most active when temperatures are warm or hot and often cause the most damage to plants in late spring. Their favorite plants to infest are non-woody, blooming plants like zinnias, dahlias, cosmos, and asters.
The average lifespan of an aphid is approximately one month. They reach sexual maturity in four to ten days and then are able to produce their own offspring.
Answer: because aphid is an insect it depends upon feeding leaves and these are durinal insects these found only day time .
Aphids love nitrogen, plain and simple. They are attracted to the soft growing parts of a plant that are high in nitrogen, as it is a major factor in plant growth. Aphids are also really attracted to young seedlings, since everything on a seedling is growing and there is lots of nitrogen to be had.
Unlike other creatures, which need to obtain carotenoids through their diets, aphids absorb energy from the sun and transfer it to the cellular machinery involved in energy production.
Spray with Water

The safest and fastest method for how to get rid of aphids is to spray them off your plants with a strong stream of water from the garden hose. Aphids are such small, soft-bodied insects that even a good rainstorm can knock them off. Once aphids are knocked off a plant, they rarely climb back on.

Soap and water:

The soap dissolves the protective outer layer of aphids and other soft-bodied insects, eventually killing them. It doesn`t harm birds or hard-bodied beneficial insects like lacewings, ladybugs or pollinating bees. You can also purchase ready-to-use insecticidal soaps online or at a local nursery.

A simple way to keep aphids at bay is to regularly spray down your plants with a steady stream of water from your garden hose at least once every two or three days. The water pressure will knock current aphids off of the leaves, and any fungus that has grown from their excretions will be removed.
The rapid growth of aphid numbers is because the species doesn`t rely on sex for reproduction. The all-female aphids reproduce ‚Äúparthenogenetically‚ÄĚ, meaning without the need for their eggs to be fertilised by males. Unlike most insects, aphids also give birth to live (all female) young.
Some aphid predators, including predatory midges, parasitoid wasps, lacewing larvae, rove beetles, hoverfly larvae and ladybirds, can be bought by mail order or some garden centres as biological controls. Biological controls are the use of natural enemies to control unwanted organisms.
If insecticides are needed, insecticidal soaps and oils are the best choices for most situations. Oils may include petroleum-based horticultural oils or plant-derived oils such as neem or canola oil. These products kill primarily by smothering the aphid, so thorough coverage of infested foliage is required.
Aphids move very slowly, which often slows down the infestation rate. Still, an infestation can spread from affected plants to nearby plants. Also, human activities such as transplanting plants can aid the spread of insects.
It has been known for years that aphids are particularly fond of the color yellow, which is why yellow color traps are sometimes used in agriculture to monitor the aphids in crops.
Aphid eggs are frequently laid on the leaves of plants or trees. Some species lay eggs on young branches with nearby buds, or on the actual buds. Aphid eggs are often hidden in crevices close to a food supply. Some species gather in extremely large numbers on thick branches, then lay an enormous number of aphid eggs.
Pest description and crop damage Aphids are smaller than 0.04 inch (1 mm), winged or wingless, and feed in colonies on leaves and stems of grasses.

Aphids are almost always found on or near their food plants. If they can they sometimes hide in the curls of leaves. Anywhere there are plants there are aphids.

Tiller will not stay running
ANSWER : The first thing I would check is the vent in the gas cap. If the vent gets blocked with dirt, a vacuum is formed in the gas tank; and gas will not get to the carburetor. There should be a tiny hole in the middle of the cap. Run a pin or needle down this hole and make sure it is not blocked.

There also could be a gas filter in the fuel line somewhere. This filter could be stopped up.
