The clutch engages the clutch pads to spin the trimmer head. If the clutch assembly is defective, the clutch will not disengage the clutch pads, and the trimmer head will continue to spin, even at low speeds. If the clutch is defective, replace it. (Note: some string trimmers do not have a clutch.
That increased fuel efficiency of a 4-stroke model is an attractive benefit on the consumer level, too. You`ll use less gas, which saves you money and time refueling. Plus, when your parts produce fewer emissions, they tend to produce less noise as well. This is true in the case of 4-stroke trimmers.
Worn clutch – Since the string trimmer clutch engages with one or more drive shafts attached to the trimmer head to rotate the head when the throttle trigger is depressed, a worn-out clutch may prevent the trimmer head from spinning. A new clutch assembly is relatively inexpensive and easy to install.
Most string trimmers use a flexible drive shaft inside the shaft housing even if the shaft is straight. These flex shafts can start to vibrate when they wear out, or when they aren`t properly lubricated. Vibration can also occur when the connection between the flex shaft and the trimmer head is loose or worn.
Clogged air filters can cause RPMs to surge up and down. Simply remove the air filter cover by the tabs or screws that hold it in place and replace. This should regularly be done as preventative maintenance. The fuel filter keeps dirt from entering the carburetor.
Most of the injuries were lacerations to the fingers, hands, and legs and foreign objects, lacerations, and contusions to the eyes. Other injuries included strains and sprains. Most grass trimmer injuries are avoidable and are due to operator inexperience or inattentive or improper handling of grass trimmers.
Diameter and thickness
Thinner threads varying from 0.065 to 0.8 inches work well on regularly maintained lawns. They can provide a nice clean trim to softer grass while whacking smaller weed plants. However, you`d ideally want to go for thicker options when working on dense vegetation and thick grass.
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the string trimmer for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
When your trimmer starts and runs on choke, it could be because the check valve in the gas cap is clogged. Start the trimmer and gently unscrew the gas cap halfway off. Turn the choke off and assess. If the engine is still running, that means the gas cap may be the culprit.
Charge only when needed and never overcharge The Trimmer.
Unless your tool instructions specifically say to store the battery on the charger, be sure to remove it after charging is complete. Overcharging can damage a battery and shorten its life, and not all chargers shut off automatically.

I need to replace the whole trimmer head and I dont know how to get the gear case off so I can put the new one on. Can anyone help?
ANSWER : To replace the trimmer head you don’t need to replace the gear case. If you look closely about a 1/4 inch up from the safety guard you’ll see a hole in the side of the “gearcase” assemby. (you may have to clean the old dead grass clippings off to see it) You can shove a rod into the hole that will stop the head from spinning freely and I believe you spin the head clock wise (reverse threads) to remove the head.
