How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
The PTO (or power take-off) belt is part of a pulley system that operates the blades on your riding lawn mower. It runs off the electric clutch system in your engine.
If the PTO clutch is not getting power, if the clutch solenoid is defective, or if the clutch is worn out, the lawn mower blades will not engage. The PTO clutch is not repairable—if the clutch is defective, you must replace it.
To adjust the clutch, use a 13mm wrench to loosen the nut which “locks” the adjusting tube that is threaded into your clutch lever bracket on the left handlebar. After you turn the nut counterclockwise a number of revolutions, you can then turn the tube clockwise, either with your fingers or an 11mm wrench.
The Self Adjusting Clutch (SAC) counteracts the constant wear on the clutch linings by mechanical means and ensures a consistent pedal travel or rather pressure point. This is also known due to the shape of the diaphragm spring clutch. It works in simple terms according to the principle of a drum brake.

I have a cub cadet 2165 I just put in a new battery and it is slow turning over any ideas?
ANSWER : If battery is good and everything is hooked up right. Most likely could be the pto clutch bearing. Not the bearing on the pulley but on the clutch inside. Had the same problem, took the spark plugs out got it free. Turned over easy with plugs out, Started right up after and then burned up my bearing. Don’t burn up bearing. If do field assy. For that is 200$ if you can get away with just that. Otherwise 350-400$ for full assy.

I have a LT1050 cub cadet and my blades won’t engage, i have checked and i have 14.1 volts at the clutch, what do you suggest?
ANSWER : When you say you have 14.4 volts to the clutch, is that measuring voltage from one terminal to ground? or between terminals. If you actually measured at both therminals, then a bad ground would not be an issue. With mower off, remove wires from clutch terminals. With ohm meter check resistance between terminals, if you have none, then clutch is bad. Also check each terminal to ground, it should be open to ground.
