Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
If your lawn mower`s engine won`t start, check to see if that cable is damaged or broken. If it is, you`ll need to replace it before the mower will start. Fortunately, replacing a broken control cable is an easy job. You may, however, have to wait a few days to get the part.
If you think your riding lawn mower has blown a fuse, trying to locate that fuse may be the most challenging step in replacing it. While different lawn mower manufacturers have located the fuse holder in different areas of the lawn mower, the best place to start looking is near the mower`s battery, according to Sears.
The spark plugs are worn or damaged
If you find that your lawnmower keeps dying, or keeps stalling while cutting grass, then inspect the spark plugs. Look for signs of damage or wear. Something as simple as a cracked porcelain insulator can mean an electrode has been damaged or burned away.
The possible causes of a lawn mower blade spinning but not cutting grass include a damaged or wrongly installed blade, a dull blade, or damaged lawnmower tires. Other possible reasons can be improper tire pressure, a clogged deck, or a broken mower belt.

Push mowers typically need 20 oz. of oil to fill up. Most should be able to use 10W-30 or 30W, either one are called for in the manuals. If you have the manual there will be a little chart that tells you what grade of oil for a temperature range and normal summer mowing both are correct.
