David,

NO FEELER GAGE REQUIRED! Read through these steps first and get the concept in your mind before you proceed.
NO

Remove coil wire from sparkplug if attached. ( always the first rule!) Verify there are no metal shavings or rust stuck to the flywheel magnet. ANY SUCH will prevent operation!
Loosen the screws of the coil so that it is snug but moveable and place the coil and flywheel magnet in direct alignment,
Secure a sheet of notebook writing paper.
Cut the paper so you have 3 layers of paper the width of the edge of the flywheel.
Move the loosened coil away from the flywheel and place the 3 layers of paper in the gap with no metal touching.
Allow the coil to fit up to the magnetic field.
Gently pull the flywheel toward the coil to allow for any clearance or wear in the flywheel bearing.
Verify the coil is still snug to the paper and tighten screws of the coil.
REMOVE PAPER!
Turn flywheel with your hand and verify there is a gap.
Apply small sideways pressure again toward the coil as you turn the flywheel. Again, there must be NO contact.
IF IT TOUCHES THE COIL REPEAT THE PROCESS! Contact WILL NOT ONLY WEAR THE PARTS BUT WILL KILL THE MAGNETIC FIELD.

Once you have success with the above, you may test the output of the coil by placing the removed sparkplug on the plug wire. With the threaded end touching or clipped to the engine metal, whirl the flywheel quickly with the magnet passing the coil. You should see or hear a spark at the thread end of the plug. Easy!

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

The Model number is eleven characters long and is printed on the left side of the Product Identification Label. Characters can include numbers, letters or hyphens.
Just One Hand™ operation allows the tiller to be guided with literally one hand thanks to a well-balanced and easy to control design. 20-inch tilling width allows you to tackle more soil at once, saving you time.
What is the spark plug and gap on a hand held product? Most of our handheld engine spark plugs should be gapped at either: A) For 28-32 cc engines, set the gap at 0.020″ (0.5 mm). B) For 38-55 cc engines, set the gap at 0.025″ (0.635 mm).
The tines or blades of a rototiller–depending on the model–can turn the soil to a depth of 5 to 12 or more inches. A rototiller can prepare the soil in varying widths, usually from 6 to 20 inches wide depending on the model.

For most jobs, a tiller depth between four and six inches will prove ideal, as you won`t encounter tree roots or rocks which can damage your rototiller. Once you have prepared the correct settings, it`s time to till the area. If the soil is compact and hard, start tilling with the shallowest setting.
Troy Bilt Lawn Mowers are extremely popular residential mowers built right here in the USA. What can get more patriotic than an American made lawn mower brand with Red and White colors? The reason Troy Bilt mowers are so popular is the fact that they are relatively inexpensive and extremely reliable.
The tiller attachment comes in 18″, 20″, 26″, 30″ and 33″ widths. The 26″ width is perfect for use with the SPIN-Farming system, making a planting bed that can be easily straddled by placing one foot on either side of the bed. There are lots of uses for the BCS tiller.

Can not find my manual for the mantis tiller..forgot hot to start it up for the first time
ANSWER : You should be able to go to the Mantis web site and download the owners manual. To start, make sure the switch in turned on, push the fuel primer bulb several times (until you feel resistance), pull the choke out all the way and pull the starter rope until it fires. Then, push the choke half way in and it should start. Let it run a 30 seconds to 1 minute and then push the choke all the way in. Be sure you are using the currect fuel/oil mixture with fresh gas and oil. If you have not done so already clean the air filter and replace the spark plug at the recommended interval.

No spark I have a roto hoe rototeler that has a tecumsek engine and there is no spark
ANSWER : No spark can be several things but begin with the easiest first.

Ensure the grounding wire (thin black wire) that connects to the coil is not grounded.
Ensure sure the plug wire end is connected well to the plug wire, some of these clamp the wire interior cord to the metal wire end by wrapping and crimping around the plug wire.
Make sure the ignition generator coil is not scrubbing against the flywheel, there should be .030 air gap between the coil and the flywheel magnets.
If you are mechanically savy, remove the flywheel and inspect the breaker points, replace/adjust as needed.

My Mantis Tiller won’t start and there is grinding type noise when I try and start it. I recently did some very lengthy trench digging over a period of about 2 months.
ANSWER : It sounds like the clutch springs may be overheated and the clutch shoes rub while you try to start it.If you loosten the screw that holds the engine to the gear box you can try to start it without the clutch and see if that is it.Good luck

ANSWER : If you can get to the dry bushings, DuraLube pump lube will fix your problem. It is available at most automotive stores and departments for $8 -10. I’ve used it in areas where I had to lube every 10-20 working hours. Now i can go 200-300 working hours. You can also add 2 or 3 ounces to your crankcase oil.

How do I check the oil on my Mantis Tiller with 4 stroke Honda Engine? THe manual that came with the tiller says it holds 3.4 oz of 4 cycle oil, but when I lay it on it’s side the dip stick does not record any oil even when it is full. Because everyone thinks the oil should register on the dipstick too much oil has often been added. This leads to overfilling the crankcase to the point that oil runs out the air cleaner etc when the engine is operating.
ANSWER : Tip the unit up with the front on the ground, the dip stick will be on the lower part of the engine & comming out at an angle
