Troy

Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Hi, Your Troy-Bilt has a sealed for life transaxle and requires no service. However, there have been some issues with the CVT clutch assembly bushings. Since there are no lubrication points, if the unit will not reach top speed or changes speeds abruptly, the first thing to inspect is the drive belt wear and tensioners. If the belt is in good condition then the bushings, and/or the clutch assembly will need to be replaced. I hope this helps and feel free to reply back if you need further assistance. SAE 5W-30 Engine Oil – 28 oz.
For those with an average mowing time of about one hour or averaging four hours of mowing per month, oil changes are recommended to occur once or twice each year as a pre- or post-season activity. Changing the oil should only take about 15 minutes and costs just a few dollars.
Technical Specifications. Fuel Tank Capacity: 1.36 gal. Engine Oil Capacity: 1.3 qts.
Greasing Properly

If you want to grease the shaft of the spindle properly, all you need is a can of grease and a grease gun. Most mowers have a grease fitting located on the spindles that will make this job easier.

Set the mower deck to the lowest setting, as the grease fittings are located on top of the deck and this will make them easier to access.
For full replacement use SAE 140 or SAE 85W-140 gear oil with an API rating of GL-4 only. We have also found that 80W-90 oil with an API rating of GL-1 is acceptable for both partial and full replacement of tiller gear oils.
As a general rule of thumb, you should change your oil after 50 hours of use or at least once a year. Regular oil changes keep your lawn mower in top condition, ensuring it runs smoothly and lasts for years to come. With proper maintenance, you can keep your lawn looking great without any hassles.
After the first 5-10 hours of operation, the oil should be changed to remove asperities that have broken from the bearings of the engine components and cylinder wall. The break-in oil change can be performed using the recommended grades of standard or synthetic oil.
Many OEM electric motor companies recommend polyurea greases for motor bearings, also, some OEM tractor manufacturers have started to recommend polyurea greases. P100 also makes an excellent grease for all the bearings found on lawnmowers and brushhogs.
