How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Examine the Belts

Check them. One or more of the belts slipping off the pulleys can be the cause of a snowblower not throwing snow. If they can be put back around the pulleys snugly, that might be all it needs. But if the belts are stretched or broken, they absolutely need to be replaced.

Check and adjust the belts and replace any broken or worn belts when you see the snowblower auger not turning. Check the auger drive cable and adjust it if loose or replace the cable if it`s broken. Examine and replace the auger if it`s damaged and won`t spin. Replace the gear case if it won`t spin the auger.
First, check the shear pins for damage. If the shear pins are broken or worn out, replace them. Next, check the auger blades. If the auger blades are bent or damaged, replace them.
A worn friction disc won`t propel the snowblower so check the friction disc and replace it if it`s worn. The snowblower also won`t move with the auger housing or scraper blade scraping the ground. Tighten the scraper blade if it`s loose and replace it if damaged.
A common issue is a clogged carburetor from stale gas. Using a fuel stabilizer keeps fuel fresh and the carburetor from gumming and varnishing. Third step, check the ignition system with a spark tester. Step four, replace the spark plug and reconnect the spark plug wire.
This is because wet, heavy snow, especially snow that`s been treated with de-icing material, is particularly sticky. When snow is partially melted, or “wet,” it packs together more readily and is likely to stick and freeze to other surfaces. When this starts to happen in your discharge chute; it gets clogged up.
Go ahead a place your hand on each auger in turn; they may move slightly; that`s normal, but they should not be free to spin. What is this? If you can spin it, your shear pin has sheared.
The easiest way to tell if your engine is flooded with gas is to remove the spark plug. If it`s wet, it`s flooded and you`ll need to let the cylinder dry out before trying to restart. Compressed air can help speed up the process.
The two most common snow blower equipment problems are starting issues and clogged chutes; however, both can be resolved with the proper maintenance and tools. Follow these easy troubleshooting tips to help get your snow blower up and running so you can get the work done quickly.
